PITTSFIELD — Police arrested a 25-year-old man on multiple firearm charges after responding to a report of an armed individual early Monday morning.
Officers were dispatched to the intersection of North Street and Melville Street at approximately 1:00 a.m. for a report of a male party with a firearm.
Responding officers conducted an area search and discovered a man involved in an argument at Cumberland Farms on First Street.
The suspect was later identified as Zyir Rasheed, a Pittsfield resident who matched the description from the initial call.
Officers gave commands to Rasheed, but he ignored them and attempted to flee.
Officers gained control of Rasheed and found him in possession of a loaded handgun with a round in the chamber.
Rasheed does not possess a Massachusetts License to Carry Firearms.
He was charged with Carrying a Firearm without a License (Subsequent Offense), Carrying a Loaded Firearm, and being an Armed Career Criminal.
Rasheed was expected to be arraigned Monday.
