WETHERSFIELD — Two armed suspects robbed a motel clerk at gunpoint Sunday night, forcing the employee into a back office where they assaulted the victim, police said.

Officers responded to the Motel 6 at 1341 Silas Deane Highway at approximately 10:16 p.m. July 27 for a report of an armed robbery.

The preliminary investigation revealed that two suspects entered the motel lobby and vaulted over the front counter before demanding cash from the clerk.

The suspects then forced the clerk at gunpoint into a rear employee office where the clerk was assaulted.

During the incident, the suspects stole the clerk’s cellular phone, wristwatch and an undetermined amount of cash.

The victim sustained minor injuries but declined medical treatment.

The suspects fled the scene in a white 2017 Hyundai Elantra bearing Connecticut registration plate AZ09385, which had previously been reported stolen out of Hartford.

Both suspects were described as Hispanic males wearing dark clothing and masks.

Both were armed with handguns.

The Wethersfield Police Department Detective Bureau is actively investigating this incident.
