Waterbury police arrest New Haven man on firearm, traffic charges

WATERBURY — Officers from the Waterbury Police Department were conducting proactive traffic enforcement in the area of Hamilton Avenue and Washington Street on July 24 when they conducted a motor vehicle stop on a 2025 Protank EFI200 motorcycle for observed traffic violations.

During the stop, the driver attempted to flee the scene but was quickly apprehended by officers.

During the course of the investigation, officers seized a Smith & Wesson Bodyguard .380 firearm.

Tyquan Coney, 33, of New Haven, was arrested and charged with insufficient insurance, interfering with an officer, no motorcycle endorsement, weapons in a motor vehicle, operating without a license, criminal possession of a firearm, failure to wear face protection, illegal sale/transfer of a firearm, illegal possession of a firearm without a permit and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.

Coney is a convicted felon and is prohibited from possessing any firearms or ammunition.
