Officers found Cotten in the garage of the residence, where he grabbed a gas can and began dousing the floor and contents with gasoline as they approached.

While officers attempted to restrain him, Cotten ignited the gas can and spilled gasoline with a lighter, police said.

Officers physically restrained Cotten and pulled him and themselves away from the fire, which was quickly extinguished.
