Lagrange police arrest three after early morning kidnapping, assault at cigar shop

LAGRANGE — State Police from the Poughkeepsie barracks responded at approximately 2:35 a.m. July 24 to a reported disturbance at The Ambassador Cigar Shop, 1214 State Route 55 in the town of LaGrange.

Upon arrival, troopers found a 31-year-old male victim with visible facial injuries and his hands restrained with zip ties.

Three males who claimed to be employees of the smoke shop were also present at the scene.

The Bureau of Criminal Investigation determined that all four individuals were known to each other prior to the incident.

According to police, the altercation reportedly began earlier in Yonkers and escalated before continuing at the LaGrange location.

Jamal Maher, 20, of Highland; Mahamed Ali, 21, of Yonkers; and Tareq Ali, 20, of Yonkers, were each arrested and charged with kidnapping in the second degree, conspiracy in the fourth degree, unlawful imprisonment in the first degree, and assault in the third degree.

Maher, Mahamed Ali, and Tareq Ali are awaiting arraignment before the Town of LaGrange Court.

According to police, there is no threat to the public.
