EAST WINDSOR — Police arrested a man Sunday after he fled in a stolen vehicle and crashed on decommissioned railroad tracks following a brief chase.
Officers located a stolen 2011 Acura MDX in the parking lot of Mill Pond Village at approximately 5:18 p.m. July 21, according to the East Windsor Police Department.
When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the operator accelerated and tried to flee at a high rate of speed.
As the Acura sped toward the exit of Mill Pond Road at Depot Street, officers deployed spike strips that disabled the vehicle’s tires.
The stolen vehicle immediately came to rest on the decommissioned railroad tracks across the street, where the operator was taken into custody without incident.
Police identified the operator as Peter Bass Jr., 34.
Bass was charged with possession of controlled substance, use of drug paraphernalia, larceny of motor vehicle, reckless endangerment in the first degree, interfering with officers, risk of injury to a child, disobeying signal of officer, reckless driving and illegal operation of motor vehicle under suspension.
