UTICA — Police have arrested a 29-year-old man in connection with two burglaries that occurred in May and July.
Jerrell Howard, who has no known address, was taken into custody after failing to turn himself in as agreed, according to the Utica Police Department.
On May 8, police units were dispatched to the 500 block of Court Street regarding a burglary investigation.
Upon arrival, officers met with the victim who stated that an unknown individual had entered their place of business, ate food inside and stole cash.
The investigation was assigned to a member of the Criminal Investigation Division.
With assistance from the Mohawk Valley Crime Analysis Center and the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, investigators made a positive identification of the suspect from surveillance video.
On July 7, police took a report of a residential burglary on the 700 block of Culver Avenue in which an individual had entered the home and stolen property.
During the investigation, officers learned that a bag had been left in the driveway with identifying paperwork inside.
Further investigation showed that the bag belonged to the suspect, who was also the suspect in the Court Street burglary.
The investigator spoke with the suspect on multiple occasions and an agreement was made for him to turn himself in.
Howard did not show at the agreed upon time.
A BOLO was sent out and patrol units quickly located and arrested Howard.
Howard was charged with burglary in the third degree, criminal trespass in the second degree and two counts of petit larceny.
