NAPLES — A 31-year-old Gorham man was charged with operating with a suspended license and is being processed for operating under the influence after fleeing the scene of a crash with a school bus Tuesday afternoon.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said Jeffrey Lord was driving a 2008 black GMC Yukon that crossed the center line and struck a Lake Region school bus on Casco Road around 12:14 p.m.

The Yukon fled the scene but was quickly located in a driveway a short distance away with help from private citizens, deputies said.

Two juvenile students were on board the 2018 Freightliner school bus at the time of the crash.

Both students were checked by the Naples Fire Department and cleared at the scene.

The school bus was being used to transport students for recreational reasons, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies said the Yukon was traveling south while the school bus was traveling north when the Yukon crossed the center line and struck the bus just behind the driver’s seat before hitting the rear tire and bending the metal rim.

The bus driver, Karl Kohring of Bridgton, was not charged.

The bus is owned by MSAD 61 Lake Region.

The investigation is ongoing.
