RUMFORD — A 27-year-old South Carolina man has been extradited to Maine on felony charges of sexual exploitation of a minor following a multi-jurisdictional investigation.
Avery Bryce Allin of Berkeley County, South Carolina, was arrested on a Class B felony charge after allegedly sending sexually explicit images to a child under age 12.
The case originated in Rumford and involved investigators working with a specially designated prosecutor from the Oxford County District Attorney’s Office and federal partners.
Officers from the Goose Creek Police Department in South Carolina located and arrested Allin without incident on June 23 on behalf of the Rumford Police Department.
Allin waived his right to formal extradition proceedings and voluntarily allowed Rumford Police to take custody and transport him to Maine.
Two Rumford Police officers traveled to South Carolina on July 10, took custody of Allin from the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, and transported him back to Maine.
He was taken to the Oxford County Jail and held pending arraignment.
Police Chief Tony Milligan said adults engaging in sexually explicit conversations and sending graphic material to children cause lasting psychological harm.
“We don’t care if you’re in Alaska, New Hampshire, or anywhere in between—if you harm a member of our community and we can fly or drive there, we’re coming for you,” Milligan said.
The investigation involved local, out-of-state and federal law enforcement partners.
