SOUTHPORT — A 33-year-old Pennsylvania man has been arrested for allegedly stealing a utility trailer from a business in the Town of Southport.
Joseph F. Friel of Millerton, Pennsylvania, was charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree, a Class E felony, according to the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched to Cash for Cans at 1600 Cedar Street at 11:20 a.m. July 16 for a report of a stolen utility trailer.
Surveillance footage showed a male subject using a pickup truck to steal the trailer from behind the business during overnight hours July 15, according to the sheriff’s office.
The Criminal Investigation Division assisted in the investigation.
Investigators determined Friel transported the utility trailer to a secluded location in the Town of Southport to avoid its discovery.
Friel was located and interviewed and agreed to show investigators where the trailer was located.
The utility trailer was recovered by Rinwalske Towing and returned to the owner.
Friel was issued an appearance ticket to appear in Town of Southport Court at a later date.
