Franklin police cite company for soliciting without permit

1 min read

FRANKLIN — The Franklin Police Department cited a third-party solicitation company after receiving multiple complaints about aggressive door-to-door sales tactics between July 17 and July 21.

Police received several calls regarding Terminix employees who were aggressively soliciting services in Franklin neighborhoods.

The department was also made aware of videos circulating on social media showing the solicitors using inappropriate language.

All companies wishing to solicit in Franklin must apply for a permit through the police department under Franklin bylaw Chapter 128 Peddling and Soliciting.

No solicitation permits were issued for Terminix.

The Franklin Police Department launched an investigation to determine whether the individuals were legitimate Terminix solicitors or potential scammers.

Police located and identified the solicitors and confirmed through Terminix that the company hires a third-party company, Hawx, to conduct solicitation.

Hawx was issued a bylaw violation for soliciting without a permit and instructed to discontinue soliciting in Franklin without the proper permit.

The Franklin Police Department thanked the community for reporting the incidents, stating that in an era of increasing scam threats, such matters are taken seriously.
