2 arrested in Waterbury traffic stop that yields drugs, gun

WATERBURY — Two people were arrested on multiple drug and weapons charges after a traffic stop July 18 that yielded heroin, crack cocaine, methamphetamine and an Uzi pistol, police said.

Officers conducted the traffic stop at approximately 7:10 p.m. near North Main Street and Cooke Street due to a traffic violation, according to the Waterbury Police Department.

During the investigation, police seized heroin, MDMA pills, crack cocaine, methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, an Uzi 9mm pistol and $658 in U.S. currency.

Trevon Saunders, 24, of Waterbury, was charged with illegal transfer of a pistol, possession of narcotics, criminal possession of a pistol or revolver, criminal possession of a firearm or ammunition, two counts of possession of narcotics with intent to sell, possession of hallucinogens with intent to sell, possession of pistol without a permit, possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, possession of large capacity magazine, operating a motor vehicle without a front plate and operation of a motor vehicle without a driver’s license.

Saunders is a convicted felon and is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition, police said.

Alaze Alziphat, 25, of Waterbury, was charged with criminal possession of a pistol or revolver, criminal possession of a firearm or ammunition, two counts of possession of narcotics with intent to sell, possession of narcotics, possession of hallucinogens with intent to sell, possession of pistol without a permit, possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, illegal transfer of a pistol, possession of large capacity magazine and two counts of interfering with an officer.

Alziphat is also a convicted felon prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition and will be remanded to the Connecticut Department of Corrections, police said.

Tatiana Falcon, 25, of Bridgeport, was charged with interfering with an officer.

All three suspects were scheduled to appear in court Monday.
