UTICA — A 31-year-old man was arrested July 17 following a bicycle chase that began when officers attempted to serve outstanding warrants, police said.
Nathan Perry of Utica was spotted riding a bicycle on Arthur Street by officers with the Crime Prevention Unit and GIVE units around the time they were seeking him on burglary charges.
The charges stem from a July 7 larceny report at the North Utica Price Chopper, according to the Utica Police Department.
Loss Prevention personnel recognized Perry as someone who had previously been caught stealing and had been issued a ban letter prohibiting him from entering the store, police said.
The case was assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division for burglary charges due to enhanced measures to hold repeat offenders accountable.
When officers attempted to stop Perry on July 17, he fled on the bicycle, police said.
After a brief pursuit with assistance from the New York State Police, Perry was stopped and taken into custody.
During a search following his arrest, officers found a substance consistent with crack cocaine, police said.
Perry was charged with burglary in the third degree, two counts of petit larceny, obstructing governmental administration in the second degree, resisting arrest and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree.
