LAKE GEORGE — A 9-year-old Canadian girl reported missing Saturday night was found dead in Ticonderoga, according to Warren County Sheriff Jim LaFarr.
The Warren County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at approximately 9:58 p.m. July 19 from a man reporting his daughter missing with a possible abduction near Exit 22 of Interstate 87 in Lake George.
The child was identified as Melina Frattolin, age 9, and the caller as her father, Luciano Frattolin, age 45, both residents of Canada.
The Warren County Sheriff’s Office initially led the investigation with assistance from the New York State Police and FBI.
As the case progressed, investigators identified inconsistencies in the father’s account of events and the timeline he provided.
Melina was located deceased in Ticonderoga with assistance from the Essex County Sheriff’s Office, Ticonderoga Police Department, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, New York State Forest Rangers, and New York State Police K9 and Aviation units.
Due to jurisdictional considerations, the investigation was turned over to the New York State Police.
There is no indication that an abduction occurred, and there is no threat to the public, according to authorities.
Communications officers fielded more than 800 calls from the public trying to help, the sheriff said.
