MONTPELIER — Police are seeking an arrest warrant for a Waterbury man who led officers on a brief pursuit while driving a stolen vehicle July 16.
Mark Sutton Jr., 25, of Waterbury, remains at large after fleeing from police in a vehicle stolen from Williamstown the previous morning, according to a Montpelier Police Department press release.
Police received information about the stolen vehicle’s location at a Hebert Road residence at approximately 12:41 p.m. July 16.
Investigation revealed the vehicle had been previously driven by Sutton, who had two in-state arrest warrants and an out-of-state extraditable arrest warrant from New Hampshire.
Sutton was also subject to conditions of release prohibiting him from operating a motor vehicle.
As police investigated, Sutton departed the residence in the vehicle and refused to stop when officers attempted a traffic stop on U.S. Route 2 in East Montpelier.
Sutton led police on a brief pursuit on Muddy Brook Road before officers discontinued the chase due to unsafe driving conditions and public safety concerns.
A Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy deployed a tire immobilization device as the vehicle fled on Farwell Street toward Barre, but the efforts were unsuccessful.
Police have requested an arrest warrant for Sutton on charges including eluding a police officer while operating in a grossly negligent manner, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, aggravated operation of a motor vehicle without owner’s consent, possession of stolen property, unlawful trespass into a motor vehicle, reckless endangerment and violation of conditions of release.
Anyone with information about Sutton’s whereabouts is encouraged to contact local law enforcement.
