BOSTON — A traffic stop for speeding in Roxbury early Saturday led to the arrest of a Brockton man on multiple firearm and alcohol charges.

Officers assigned to District B-2 arrested Allante Pires, 28, of Brockton, after recovering a loaded Glock 19 handgun during the stop.

Police were patrolling the area of Moreland Street and Warren Street at about 2:42 a.m. July 19 when they observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed.

Officers activated their emergency lights and sirens and conducted a traffic stop at 14 Hazelwood Street.

When officers approached the vehicle, they observed that the operator had glossy eyes and slurred speech, and detected a strong odor of alcohol.

The operator was unable to provide vehicle registration when requested and officers observed an open bottle of alcohol in the glove box and a knife on the operator’s waistband.

Both the operator and front passenger refused to exit the vehicle when ordered by police.

Officers removed both occupants from the vehicle and conducted a pat frisk, during which they located a firearm inside the vehicle.

District B-2 detectives took possession of the evidence and determined the weapon was a Glock 19 with one round in the chamber and 24 rounds in a magazine capable of holding 31 rounds.

Pires is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawful possession of a large capacity firearm, operating under the influence of alcohol, open container and speeding.
