Waterbury police arrest 3 in dirt bike, scooter enforcement

WATERBURY — The Auto Theft Task Force observed a dirt bike operating on Jersey St. on July 14 and conducted a traffic stop.

Officers issued several tickets to the operator, Alexis Munoz, 30, of Waterbury, and arrested him for multiple active warrants.

Also on July 14, the task force observed a 150cc scooter operating recklessly on E Main St near Frost Rd.

The scooter was towed, and the operator, Hernandez Serrano, 20, of Waterbury, was issued a summons.

On July 15, Auto Theft Task Force members attempted to stop a moped for reckless driving near City Mills Lane.

As officers initiated a traffic stop, the moped fled, causing a task force officer to fall and sustain minor injuries.

The operator, identified as Eliud Santana-Gonzalez, 31, of Waterbury, was apprehended a short distance away.

Santana-Gonzalez was charged with assault on a police officer, interfering with a police officer, failure to obey officer signal, operating an unregistered motor vehicle and failure to maintain liability insurance on a motorcycle.

The Waterbury Police Department offers a $200 reward for anonymous tips that lead to an arrest and seizure of illegal ATVs, dirt bikes, mini motorcycles and other non-permitted recreational vehicles being used on city streets or in parks.
