SOUTH SALEM — Troopers from the Somers barracks, in coordination with the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Town of Lewisboro Police Department, responded to a 911 call reporting an unresponsive individual at a private residence Wednesday at approximately 6:30 p.m.
First responders located 18-year-old Brandon Q. Gmelin of Ridgefield, Connecticut.
Despite life-saving efforts, Gmelin was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Gmelin had been attempting to move a log splitter that had been delivered to the property earlier that day for scheduled landscaping work.
During the attempt, the equipment began to roll down a sloped area and struck Gmelin, resulting in fatal injuries.
No signs of foul play are suspected.
The investigation remains ongoing.
