SEABROOK — A Maine man was arrested after speeding more than 100 mph and refusing to stop for police, leading to a pursuit.
At 4:42 a.m. on Wednesday, July 16, Trooper Cameron Vetter of the Troop A barracks was patrolling on Interstate 95 southbound in Seabrook when he saw a 2025 Volkswagen Atlas traveling at 116 mph in a 65 mph zone.
Trooper Vetter attempted a traffic stop, but after initially slowing down, the driver sped up again and exited the highway at Exit 2.
Then, at the Hampton Side Toll plaza, the driver made an abrupt U-turn, re-entered I-95 southbound, and continued until Exit 1, where the driver lost control of the Volkswagen, struck a delineator post, and stopped with a deflated tire.
The driver then left the Volkswagen and ran into the woods near the highway.
Additional units responded, including a State Police K-9.
The driver was later taken into custody after trying to run across the I-95 in the area of Exit 1.
The driver has been identified as Romario Linton, 27, of Berwick, Maine.
Linton is charged with two felony counts of reckless conduct with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor counts of disobeying an officer, resisting arrest or detention, and conduct after an accident.
After his arrest, Linton was taken to an area hospital to be evaluated for injuries resulting from the crash.
Linton was then held at the Rockingham County Jail on preventive detention and is scheduled to be arraigned in Hampton District Court today, July 17.
Troopers were assisted on the scene by the members of the Seabrook Police Department, the Amesbury, Massachusetts Police Department, the Salisbury, Massachusetts Police Department, and the Seabrook Fire Department.
