Holyoke police seize firearm, cocaine in Essex Street drug bust

HOLYOKE — Holyoke Police Chief Brian Keenan announced Wednesday afternoon that police detectives received information about drug activity in the area of 145 Essex Street.

Detectives conducted surveillance and observed suspected drug activity in the area.

Around 7 p.m., Sergeant Dustin Summers along with Detectives David Seidel, Michael Everett, Matthew Goulding and William Lebrun arrived in the area.

When police arrived, a subject took off running.

Detective Seidel was able to take him into custody on Walnut Street.

The suspect was a 17-year-old male.

Detectives removed a cross-body bag from the juvenile and recovered an illegal firearm.

In the area where the subjects were congregating, detectives recovered 64 vials of cocaine and $213 in cash and placed Alexis Cardenales-Rodriguez under arrest.

The name of the juvenile and his charges will not be released due to his age.

Alexis Cardenales-Rodriguez, 20, of Holyoke is charged with possession with the intent to distribute a Class B drug and possession of a Class B drug.
