BREWSTER — A 30-year-old Brewster woman was arrested on felony driving while intoxicated charges after a state trooper observed her vehicle traveling eastbound in the westbound lane of Main Street on July 16.
Carol A. Julian-Ramirez was spotted driving in the wrong direction at approximately 10:01 p.m., narrowly avoiding a head-on collision, according to New York State Police.
When the trooper initiated a traffic stop, Julian-Ramirez failed to comply with emergency lights and sirens before eventually pulling over.
After briefly stopping, Julian-Ramirez fled the scene, prompting a second stop, police said.
The driver initially provided a false name to the trooper before being properly identified, according to police.
Julian-Ramirez was non-compliant and exhibited multiple indicators of intoxication, police said.
During the traffic stop, a one-year-old child was discovered in the back seat of the vehicle.
Julian-Ramirez was taken into custody and transported to State Police Somers for processing, where she refused to provide a breath sample.
The child was released to the care of a sober party.
Julian-Ramirez was charged with DWI with a previous conviction of designated offense within 10 years, an E felony.
She was also charged with aggravated DWI with a child passenger under 16 with one prior conviction within 10 years, an E felony.
Additional charges include obstructing governmental administration in the second degree, unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle in the third degree, false personation, reckless driving and multiple vehicle and traffic law violations.
Julian-Ramirez was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Southeast Court on Aug. 11 at 4:30 p.m.
