SOUTHBRIDGE — A 62-year-old Southbridge man has been charged with kidnapping after allegedly preventing a dog walker from leaving a residence.

Mark L. Miller of 25 Belmont Street was arrested following an incident that occurred Friday evening.

At approximately 8:10 p.m. Friday, a woman entered the lobby of police headquarters to report a suspicious incident that had occurred moments earlier at a Southbridge residence.

The woman told police she was working for a dog walking app and had been contacted by a female to watch her dogs for a few hours.

When she arrived at the residence, she was greeted outside by a male subject instead of the female who had contacted her, police said.

After entering the residence with the man, the woman noticed it was dark inside and she did not believe the dogs she was hired to watch were present in the home.

The woman alleged that the male subject then positioned himself near the door to prevent her from leaving and asked her to go upstairs.

The woman said she feared for her safety and was able to flee the residence, immediately driving to police headquarters.

Miller was held on cash bail and was arraigned in Dudley District Court on Monday.
