Fair Haven police recover body of 14-year-old who drowned while fishing

FAIR HAVEN — Fair Haven police officers responded to assist Washington County Sheriff’s deputies in the area of West Street and the New York state line for a possible drowning on July 1.

Police were directed to an area where a 14-year-old child had been fishing and fell into the water.

Ptl. Tom Covino, Ptl. Tyler Duel and Deputy CJ Davidson of the Sheriff’s Department went to the water.

Ptl. Covino located the child and pulled the child out of the water where he was assisted by other first responders.

Life saving measures were immediately provided by the first responders but the child could not be saved.
