FLEMING — New York State Police are investigating a serious motor vehicle crash that occurred at the intersection of Bluefield Road and Skillet Road on July 12 at approximately 12:37 p.m.
Troopers from SP Auburn and members of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded to the scene following a two-vehicle collision involving a 2023 Chevrolet Traverse and a 2013 Ford F-150 pickup truck.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the Chevrolet Traverse was traveling westbound on Skillet Road and failed to stop at the posted stop sign, entering the intersection and colliding with a Ford F-150 that was traveling eastbound.
A total of five individuals were transported to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, two of whom were airlifted due to the severity of their injuries.
Garrard J. Plants, age 18, of Mexico, the operator of the Ford F-150, suffered serious, life-threatening injuries and remains in critical but stable condition.
A 5-year-old child, a passenger in the Chevrolet Traverse, was ejected from the vehicle and is in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
Roberto G. Vasquez Velasquez, age 37, of West Winfield, operator of the Traverse, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Yuli G. Juarez Vasquez, age 32, of West Winfield, a passenger of the Traverse, was transported for evaluation.
A 17-year-old passenger in the F-150 sustained a head injury.
All individuals injured in the crash are reported to be in stable condition and are expected to recover.
Investigators from the NYSP Collision Reconstruction Unit and Forensic Identification Unit responded and processed the scene.
No indicators of alcohol or drug impairment were found.
The New York State Police were assisted by multiple fire departments, including Fleming, Owasco, and Aurelius, as well as MercyFlight and Auburn City Ambulance.
The investigation is ongoing.
