CORTLANDVILLE — New York State Police arrested a Syracuse man on drug charges following a traffic stop on Interstate 81 on July 10.
Eugenio Matos Pizarro, 30, was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree, a class D felony, and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a misdemeanor.
A trooper monitoring traffic observed Matos Pizarro’s vehicle speeding at approximately 3:18 p.m. and initiated a traffic stop.
During the interview, the trooper noticed inconsistent answers to basic questions from Matos Pizarro, who was the only occupant of the vehicle.
The trooper gained consent to search the vehicle and located a large sum of cash, an unlabeled prescription bottle containing multiple pills later identified as Oxycodone, and a package containing what appeared to be puzzle magazines.
Within the magazines, the trooper found over 100 blister packages of Xanax taped within the pages.
Matos Pizarro was transported to State Police Homer for processing and later to Cortland County Jail for centralized arraignment.
