SPRINGFIELD — Springfield police officers seized a large-capacity firearm and arrested a 36-year-old man following a traffic stop Sunday evening.
Officers conducted the traffic stop around 4:30 p.m. on the 0-100 block of Horace Street.
The driver, Bernie Ruiz Jr., had an outstanding arrest warrant and did not have a driver’s license.
He was placed under arrest at approximately 5 p.m.
Officers located a loaded firearm inside the vehicle containing 15 rounds of ammunition.
Ruiz of Springfield is charged with convicted felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of a large capacity firearm, possession of ammunition without an FID card, possession of a high-capacity magazine/feeding device, carrying a dangerous weapon while having an active warrant, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and littering from a motor vehicle.
He also faces charges on an arrest warrant for assault and battery on a correctional facility employee.
