Cortlandville man arrested on burglary, drug charges

CORTLANDVILLE — A 33-year-old homeless Cortland man was arrested July 12 on felony burglary charges after allegedly breaking into an outbuilding and stealing property.

Aaron R. Vandebogart was charged with third-degree burglary, a felony, along with misdemeanor charges of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and petit larceny, according to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office.

Officers were dispatched to a reported burglary at a residence in the Town of Cortlandville at approximately 5:08 p.m. July 11.

Through investigation, officers identified Vandebogart as the suspect who had entered an outbuilding on the property and stole property before fleeing the scene.

Officers from the Cortland City Police Department and Cortland County Sheriff’s Office located Vandebogart at approximately 7:43 a.m. July 12.

Vandebogart was arrested at 7:57 a.m. and found to be in possession of a controlled substance.

He was transported to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office for processing.

Vandebogart was arraigned through the Centralized Arraignment Process at 8:00 p.m. July 12 and released on his own recognizance.

His next court appearance is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. July 23 in the Town of Cortlandville Court.
