BOSTON — A 38-year-old Boston man was arrested on firearm charges and violation of auto laws following a traffic stop early Sunday morning in Dorchester.
Anthony Rainey was taken into custody by officers assigned to District B-3 after a traffic stop that began around 12:50 a.m. on July 13.
Officers were on directed patrol in the area of Page Street towards Glenway Street when they observed a vehicle with excessive window tint and tinted license plate covers on both front and rear plates.
The vehicle came to a complete stop near Glenway towards Old Road, then slowly rolled through the intersection before stopping in the middle of the road for over 15 seconds after the operator observed officers.
Officers conducted a U-turn to get behind the vehicle to conduct a traffic stop, at which point the vehicle began to drive evasively, failing to stop for a stop sign and crossing two lanes of traffic.
Officers activated their cruiser’s lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop at 1 Franklin Park Road.
When officers approached the vehicle, the operator rolled down his window approximately one inch and refused multiple requests to roll it down further.
Officers observed the operator making multiple movements inside the vehicle, reaching towards the glove box and center console while continuously pinning his left arm to his body.
After continued refusal to roll down the window, officers opened the driver’s side door and gave an exit order to the operator, who was slurring his speech.
Once the suspect exited the vehicle, he continued to blade the left side of his body away from officers.
A pat frisk was conducted and a firearm was recovered from the suspect’s left pocket.
The firearm was determined to be a Ruger .380 CCP with six rounds in the magazine.
Rainey is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges including carrying a loaded firearm without a license (third offense), possession of ammunition without an FID card (subsequent offense), carrying a firearm without a license (third offense), window obstruction, number plate violation to conceal ID, OUI-liquor, fail to stop, marked lanes violation, malicious destruction of property, resist arrest, and firearm violation with three prior violent/drug crimes.
