ALBION — A 44-year-old Albion man has been charged with operating under the influence and leaving the scene after a hit-and-run crash Friday that killed a child and seriously injured two others.
Benjamin Lancaster was arrested and taken to Kennebec County Jail following the 5:12 p.m. crash on Hussey Hill Road, Maine State Police said.
The crash involved an adult and two minor children who were struck by a white 2016 Hyundai Veloster that fled the scene, police said.
One child was pronounced dead at the scene.
The adult victim, 33-year-old Mollie Egold of Albion, was flown by LifeFlight to a hospital with serious injuries and remains in stable condition.
The second child was also transported by LifeFlight and remains in critical condition.
Lancaster faces charges including operating under the influence causing death, operating under the influence causing serious bodily injury, leaving the scene of an accident causing death, and leaving the scene of an accident causing serious bodily injury.
Police are seeking video footage or surveillance covering Hussey Road or Main Street in Albion between 5:00 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. on July 11 involving a white vehicle matching the description.
