Motorcyclist dies in crash with SUV on Bartlett Road in Westmoreland

WESTMORELAND — A 20-year-old motorcyclist was killed July 11 when his bike collided with an SUV on Bartlett Road, according to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office.

William Ballou of Westmoreland was traveling northbound on his 2024 Kawasaki motorcycle at approximately 6 p.m. when a Honda CRV entered the roadway from a residential driveway, Sheriff Robert M. Maciol said.

The motorcycle struck the driver’s side doors of the CRV operated by Lorraine Madell, 79, of Clinton.

Ballou was pronounced dead at the scene.

Madell was transported to Rome Hospital for a medical evaluation.

Members of the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Unit, Forensic Identification Unit, and Accident Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene.

The crash is being reconstructed and remains under investigation.

The Stanwix Heights and Westmoreland Volunteer Fire Departments assisted at the scene along with Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
