ELMIRA — A grand jury has indicted a man on attempted murder and other charges in connection with a July 5 shooting that wounded two people near Broadway Avenue and Mt. Zoar Street.
Benjamin N. Green was arraigned Thursday in Chemung County Court on charges including attempted murder in the second degree, criminal use of a firearm in the first degree, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, and assault in the second degree.
Green was remanded to the Chemung County Jail in lieu of $750,000/$1.5 million bond.
Police responded to reports of a large disturbance in the early morning hours of July 5 and were advised while en route that a firearm was involved.
Officers found two people had been struck by gunfire at the scene.
Investigators recovered evidence of the shooting and identified Green as a suspect over the following days.
Green, described as a parole absconder, was located and taken into custody July 9 by Elmira police with assistance from New York State Police.
He was initially held on a parole warrant before the grand jury voted to indict him Wednesday.
The attempted murder and criminal use of a firearm charges are Class B felonies, while the weapon possession charges are Class C felonies and the assault charge is a Class D felony.
