BREWER — A 54-year-old Bangor man was arrested Thursday evening on multiple domestic violence charges following an incident at the Vacationland Inn.

Edward Malone was taken into custody at approximately 7:34 p.m. in Hampden after a multi-agency search, according to the Brewer Police Department.

Police responded to the hotel at approximately 4:28 p.m. after receiving reports of a family fight.

The victim reported that her husband was destroying the room, refusing to leave, and had cut her with a piece of broken glass.

Officers arrived and made contact with the victim, who had gotten out of the room.

Police initially believed Malone was still in the room and had access to knives.

The perimeter was secured with assistance from the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office, Holden Police Department, and Maine State Police.

Multiple attempts to communicate with Malone were made with a negotiator from the Holden Police Department, but were unsuccessful.

A consultation with the Maine State Police Tactical Team determined that a tactical response was necessary.

Search and arrest warrants were obtained for the room and Malone.

Security camera footage later revealed that Malone may have left the scene before police arrived.

Officers checked areas in Brewer and Bangor where Malone could be located.

Acting on a tip that Malone might be in Hampden, officers from the Hampden Police Department and a Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office sergeant located and arrested him.

Malone was charged with domestic violence assault, domestic violence criminal threatening, reckless conduct, domestic violence elevated aggravated assault against a pregnant person, and gross sexual assault.
