SUMMERHILL — A 51-year-old Groton man died Monday evening when his pickup truck overturned on State Route 90 in Cayuga County.
John R. Sanford was driving a 2017 Chevrolet 2500 pickup truck eastbound on State Route 90 at approximately 5 p.m. July 7 when the vehicle lost control and exited the north side of the roadway, according to New York State Police at SP Auburn.
The truck overturned and Sanford, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was partially ejected from the vehicle.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The passenger, Lawanda H. Eaton, 47, of Cortland, had no apparent injuries but was transported to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse as a precaution.
She remains in stable condition.
The New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit processed the scene.
The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office and Locke Fire Department assisted state police.
