Cortland County sheriff warns of paving scam targeting residents, businesses

1 min read

CORTLAND — The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents and businesses about scammers posing as a legitimate paving company from out of town.

Sheriff Mark E. Helms said his office has received complaints about subjects offering discounted blacktop services without disclosing prices upfront.

The scammers show up at properties, perform some work and then charge abnormally high amounts for the services, according to the sheriff’s office.

Officials are urging residents and businesses to be cautious of deals or offers that seem suspicious.

Anyone approached by out-of-town subjects offering paving or sealing services they did not request should contact the Cortland County 911 Center at (607) 753-3311 to report the incident.
