WEST HEMPSTEAD — A 23-year-old man has been charged with vehicular assault and driving while intoxicated after allegedly striking a bicyclist and fleeing the scene early Sunday morning.
Sebastien Castin of West Hempstead was arrested following the 3:17 a.m. crash on Woodfield Road near Coventry Road North, Nassau County police said Monday.
A 49-year-old man was riding his bicycle northbound on Woodfield Road when he was struck by a silver Chrysler 300, according to police.
The driver fled the scene after the collision, police said.
The bicyclist sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.
Fifth Precinct officers responded to the scene after receiving reports of the crash.
Following an investigation, Castin was located near the accident scene and arrested without incident, police said.
Castin is charged with second-degree vehicular assault, driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident with injury.
