TROY — Troy police have arrested a 29-year-old man in connection with the shooting of his brother Tuesday evening.
Stafon A. Farrell of Troy was charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, according to Deputy Chief Steven M. Barker.
The victim, Farrell’s 31-year-old brother, remains in critical condition at a local hospital.
Police responded to a family disturbance at a residence on 6th Avenue shortly before 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Officers broadcast a suspect description after learning someone had been shot.
Patrol officers spotted the suspect at a nearby store and detained him in a parking lot without incident.
Additional officers found the victim in a stairwell at the residence, where Troy Fire Department personnel provided emergency medical aid.
Detectives conducted interviews while evidence technicians processed the scene and recovered a firearm.
Farrell was charged overnight, processed and arraigned in Troy City Court.
He was remanded to the Rensselaer County Jail and the case will be prosecuted by the Rensselaer County District Attorney’s Office.
Police said the shooting stemmed from an argument between the brothers that escalated to violence.
