SPRINGFIELD — Springfield Police Officers assigned to the Neighborhood Stabilization Unit seized a loaded large capacity firearm and arrested a suspect from a shooting incident Monday at approximately 3:30 p.m.
On Sunday around 11:45 a.m., Springfield Police Officers responded to the 100 block of Boston Road after receiving information about a shooting.
A suspect was allegedly shooting at another vehicle when an uninvolved vehicle was struck.
Officers recovered 11 shell casings.
On Monday around 3:00 p.m., an off-duty officer observed the suspect and suspect vehicle.
Members of the Springfield Police Neighborhood Stabilization Unit arrived and conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Mill Street and Locust Street.
Officers identified the driver as Jaiden Thomas.
During a search of the vehicle, officers recovered a semi-automatic handgun.
The firearm was loaded with 17 rounds of ammunition with a defaced serial number.
Officers placed Thomas under arrest.
20-year-old Jaiden Thomas of Springfield is charged with carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded large capacity firearm on a public way, possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number, possession of a large capacity firearm in a motor vehicle, possession of ammunition without an FID card, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building and malicious damage to a motor vehicle.
