COLCHESTER — Two Bronx residents were arrested Thursday evening following a traffic stop during a road check on County Highway 7.
Sheriff Craig S. DuMond announced the arrests Friday.
Deputies conducting the road check detected a strong odor of burnt marijuana emanating from a vehicle passing through the checkpoint.
The driver was identified as 22-year-old Justin Lorenzo-Nunez of Bronx, N.Y.
During questioning, Lorenzo-Nunez provided deputies with another individual’s driver’s license and attempted to give a false name.
A check revealed Lorenzo-Nunez’s driving privileges were suspended in New York state.
The passenger was identified as 25-year-old A. Perdomo-Avelino, who possessed a valid driver’s license but had knowingly allowed Lorenzo-Nunez to operate the vehicle with a suspended license.
Lorenzo-Nunez was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the second degree and knowingly operating a motor vehicle while suspended, both unclassified misdemeanors.
He was also charged with false impersonation, a class B misdemeanor, and issued a traffic summons for unlicensed operator.
Perdomo-Avelino was charged with facilitating aggravated unlicensed operation in the second degree, an unclassified misdemeanor.
Both men were released on appearance tickets and directed to appear in Colchester Town Court at a later date.
