Gloversville house fire displaces 7 residents

GLOVERSVILLE — The Gloversville and Johnstown Fire Departments responded to a structure fire at 14 Windsor Drive at 2:33 a.m. today.

Upon arrival, Battalion Chief Michael Putnam confirmed a working fire and requested the Third Battalion to respond.

Members were met with heavy fire on the exterior of the attached garage that had made its way into the common attic space above the garage and house.

Three adults and four children were inside the home at the time of the fire and were alerted to the fire by a neighbor who was getting ready for work.

All the occupants were able to get out safely.

Firefighters Tyler Cosselman and Jacob Ammann advanced a handline into the attached garage to attack the fire through the attic access.

Firefighter Justin House and Johnstown firefighters Jake Duesler and Sam Caruso stretched a handline into the house via the front door to remove ceilings and attack the rapidly extending attic fire over the main house.

The roof and the roof structure of the home were heavily damaged by the fire; the remainder of the house suffered smoke and water damage.

No injuries to firefighters or civilians were reported.

All units were back in service at 5:27 a.m.

Gloversville Fire Department investigators determined the cause of the fire to be accidental.

Firefighters were assisted by the Gloversville Police Department, Fulton County Emergency Management, National Grid and Lake Valley EMS.
