Cincinnatus man charged with burglary after Dollar General incident

CINCINNATUS — A 47-year-old man was arrested July 4 on felony burglary charges after allegedly stealing merchandise from a Dollar General store where he had been previously banned.

William C. George of Telephone Road Extension was charged with third-degree burglary, fourth-degree criminal mischief, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and petit larceny.

The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office responded to Dollar General at 2717 State Route 26 on July 3 at approximately 9:53 p.m. for a reported larceny.

Deputies determined George damaged and stole merchandise from the store before leaving the scene.

George had previously been issued a no-trespassing order from the Dollar General.

George was located and arrested July 4 at 5:32 p.m.

During the arrest, deputies found George in possession of a controlled substance.

George was transported to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office for processing.

He was arraigned through the Centralized Arraignment Process at 7:30 p.m. July 4 and released on his own recognizance.

George’s next court appearance is scheduled for July 16 at 7:00 p.m. in Town of Cincinnatus Court.
