Elmira shooting leaves 2 wounded near Queen City Deli

ELMIRA — Officers responded to a large disturbance involving a firearm at Broadway Avenue and Mt Zoar Street at approximately 1:12 a.m. July 5.

Police arrived within seconds to find a crowd of over 100 people gathered at the scene.

Officers observed a group of individuals in the intersection tending to a male lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to his abdomen.

As additional officers arrived, they observed a black truck leaving the area at a high rate of speed.

Officers followed the vehicle to Arnot Ogden Medical Center, where they discovered the male driver had also suffered a gunshot wound to his left thigh.

The early investigation revealed the male found on the ground was the intended target of the shooting, and the other male was a bystander struck by a stray bullet.

Both males are currently being treated at the hospital.

Investigators and evidence technicians from the Elmira Police Department responded to begin investigating the incident.

The Elmira Police Department was assisted by the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office, Elmira Heights Police Department, West Elmira Police Department, Horseheads Police Department, New York State Police, Elmira Fire Department, and Erway’s Ambulance.
