BOSTON — Officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) arrested Nathaniel Gomes, 26, of Somerville, for firearm charges on Saturday, July 5.
At 2:30 a.m., while monitoring a large party on River Street, officers observed a smaller group setting off fireworks in the area of Violante Street.
As officers approached the group, an individual was seen separating from the others and walking away.
The officers began to follow the individual who continuously looked over his shoulder at the officers’ position.
The suspect was seen stopping behind a motor vehicle and made a distinct dipping motion with his body.
Officers believed that the suspect had discarded an unknown item near the rear of the vehicle.
Officers immediately recovered a firearm from the rear driver side tire and ordered the suspect to stop.
Officers were able to place the suspect into handcuffs and requested detectives to respond to the scene.
The firearm was determined to be an Intratec Cat 9 with one round in the chamber and six rounds in the magazine.
Gomes was placed under arrest and is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court for carrying a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, and carrying a loaded firearm without a license, second offense.
