BOSTON — Officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force arrested a 21-year-old Hyde Park man on multiple firearm-related charges at approximately 12:31 p.m. as part of an ongoing investigation in the area of the Fairmount Housing Development.

Police arrested Rayhan Melo-Nunez of Hyde Park after receiving information indicating he was in possession of a black semi-automatic firearm, believed to be a Glock, concealed in his waistband.

Officers observed Melo-Nunez walking briskly while clutching his waistband and wearing a hooded sweatshirt despite hot weather, which raised suspicion.

He entered a nearby residence on Woodglen Road and emerged moments later before officers detained him for investigation.

Believing a firearm may have been discarded inside the residence, officers established a perimeter.

A female then exited through the backyard with a concealed firearm in her waistband and did not fully comply with officers’ commands.

The firearm, a loaded Glock 23, fell from under her shirt onto the ground, and she was taken into custody without further incident.

The recovered firearm was loaded with a high-capacity magazine containing 15 rounds of live ammunition.

A protective sweep of the home revealed a replica firearm under a bed on the second floor.

One officer sustained a minor dog bite from a French Bulldog during the sweep but did not require medical attention.

The female was summonsed to court following the investigation.

Melo-Nunez will be arraigned in West Roxbury District Court on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a high-capacity feeding device, carrying a loaded firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.
