OSWEGO — Nine residents were displaced after an early morning fire at a two-family home on East 7th Street.
Firefighters were dispatched at 1:11 a.m. July 5 to a report of a fire at 179 E. 7th St. with multiple people still inside.
While en route to the incident, firefighters were updated that everyone was out of the building.
Firefighters arrived within a few minutes and confirmed a large two-family home that was well involved in fire.
Firefighters quickly deployed multiple handlines to extinguish the fire and conducted an immediate search of the building for any possible victims.
Firefighters were able to quickly knock down the fire and confirm that all residents were out of the building.
Firefighters remained on scene for roughly four hours extinguishing hot spots and conducting extensive overhaul operations.
Fire damage was contained to the apartment of origin, with the adjacent apartment sustaining moderate smoke and water damage.
The City of Oswego Fire Investigation Team is still on the scene.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Several agencies assisted the Oswego Fire Department on the scene including Oswego Police Department, Oswego DPW, Fulton Fire Department, Novelis Emergency Services, Minetto Fire Department, Scriba Fire Department, Oswego County Fire Coordinators Office, Menter Ambulance, and National Grid.
Firefighters from Oswego Town responded to the City of Oswego to cover any subsequent calls for service.
The Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents.
