Waterbury man arrested on weapons, drug charges after foot chase

WATERBURY — Members of the Waterbury Police Department’s Gang Task Force, Auto Theft Task Force, Crime Prevention Unit and the Connecticut State Police Violent Crimes Task Force were actively patrolling the area of Angel Drive on July 1 when they observed Anderson Vargas, 26, of Stratford.

Vargas was known to have an active arrest warrant out of Watertown for reckless endangerment in the 2nd degree, engaging police in pursuit, and several other charges.

As officers attempted a motor vehicle stop, Vargas fled the scene on foot.

He was quickly apprehended without incident.

During the arrest, Vargas was found to be in possession of a firearm.

Officers seized $920 in U.S. currency, approximately 6 pounds of marijuana and a Glock Austria Model 19 Gen 5 firearm.

Vargas was charged with insufficient insurance, operating a drug factory, interfering with an officer, misuse of registration plates, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, criminal possession of a pistol or revolver, illegal sale or transfer of pistols or revolver, illegal possession of high-capacity magazines and criminal possession of a firearm or ammunition.

He is a convicted felon for previous weapons charges and is prohibited from possessing any firearms and ammunition.

Vargas remains in the custody of the Connecticut Department of Corrections.
