Seymour man arrested after police find explosive devices during domestic call

SEYMOUR — Police responding to a domestic disturbance call discovered what appeared to be several improvised explosive devices and materials used to construct explosives at a Chaden Road residence, leading to an overnight investigation involving multiple agencies.

The Seymour Police Department responded to 1 Chaden Road at 10:33 p.m. July 3 for a reported domestic disturbance.

After an on-scene investigation, officers had probable cause to arrest the male resident of the home.

During their investigation, officers found that the man had several firearms registered to him.

While inside the residence taking possession of the firearms, officers discovered what appeared to be several improvised explosive devices along with material used to construct explosive devices.

Officers backed out of the residence, and the State Police Bomb Squad responded to the scene along with the Seymour Fire Department, Seymour Ambulance, and Seymour Emergency Management.

All personnel cleared the scene July 4 at approximately 9:30 a.m.

Joseph H. Bohlin, 37, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, interfering with an emergency call, illegal manufacture of bombs (two counts), illegal possession of explosives and illegal possession of fireworks.

Bohlin is being held at the Seymour Police Department in lieu of $150,000 bond with a court date of July 7.
