Yonkers pedestrian struck, killed on New York State Thruway

YONKERS — State Police were notified of a person walking against traffic in the southbound lanes of the New York State Thruway between Exits 6A and 6 at about 3:37 a.m. July 3.

At about 3:43 a.m., as Troopers were responding to locate the pedestrian, it was reported that the pedestrian had been struck by a motor vehicle.

Responding Troopers and emergency medical personnel located the female pedestrian lying in the roadway, and she was pronounced deceased.

The preliminary investigation has determined that the deceased was walking northbound in the southbound lanes when she was struck by a vehicle in the left lane.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of family.

No tickets have been issued, and the investigation is ongoing.

All lanes of the Thruway that were closed for the investigation have reopened.
