SPRINGFIELD — Springfield police seized an illegal firearm and trafficking amounts of cocaine and heroin during a traffic stop Wednesday evening.
Officers from the Neighborhood Stabilization Bureau conducted the stop at approximately 7:05 p.m. on the 0-100 block of Central Street after observing a vehicle with a defective headlight in the Adams Street area.
Police found cocaine, crack cocaine and more than $3,200 in cash on the driver, identified as Thomas Rodriguez.
The crack cocaine weighed approximately 28 grams, while the powder cocaine weighed approximately 10 grams.
Officers recovered a loaded large capacity firearm, loose ammunition and approximately 400 bags of heroin inside the vehicle.
Rodriguez and the vehicle’s passenger, Bobby Guzman, were arrested.
Thomas Rodriguez, 32, of Enfield, Connecticut, is charged with possession of a large capacity firearm during the commission of a felony, firearm violation with one prior violent/drug crime, convicted felon in possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition without an FID card, carrying a loaded large capacity firearm on a public way, carrying a firearm without a license, trafficking cocaine 18-36 grams, possession with intent to distribute a Class A drug, possession with intent to distribute a Class B drug and motor vehicle lights violation.
Bobby Guzman, 48, of Springfield, is charged with carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded large capacity firearm on a public way, convicted felon in possession of a firearm and firearm violation with one prior violent/drug crime.
