Cornwall man arrested in decades-long sexual abuse case involving minors

CORNWALL — The New York State Police announced the arrest of James Valentine, 57, of Cornwall, on July 2, stemming from an alleged pattern of abuse spanning more than 20 years in the Town of Clarkstown.

Investigators from SP Montgomery Bureau of Criminal Investigation were notified on June 4 of inappropriate interactions between Valentine and two 15-year-old male victims at his Cornwall home.

The investigation revealed Valentine allegedly engaged in inappropriate physical contact with multiple juvenile male victims over two decades.

He was charged with Attempted Criminal Sexual Act 1st, a class C felony, and Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child 2nd, a class D felony.

Valentine was arraigned in Clarkstown Town Court and remanded to Rockland County Jail with bail set at $25,000 cash, $50,000 bond, or $75,000 partially secured bond.

He is scheduled to reappear in court on July 7.

The State Police were assisted by the FBI’s Hudson Valley Safe Streets Task Force, Clarkstown Police, and the Rockland and Orange County District Attorney’s Offices.

Authorities believe additional unidentified victims may exist in and outside New York.
