Owego man arrested on assault charges after domestic dispute

OWEGO — New York State Police at Owego arrested Justin Netherton, age 21 of Owego, on June 30 for the class D felony of assault in the second degree and the misdemeanors of resisting arrest and criminal mischief in the fourth degree.

On June 19 at approximately 7:52 p.m., troopers were dispatched to a residence on Halsey Valley Road in the town of Spencer for a report of a domestic dispute.

Troopers were advised that Netherton had damaged a vehicle belonging to another person at the residence.

When a trooper attempted to interview Netherton about what occurred, Netherton took off on foot then threw a beer can at the trooper causing an injury to the trooper.

While attempting to place Netherton in custody, Netherton continued to resist arrest and kick the trooper and a second trooper.

Netherton was ultimately placed in custody.

Following a review of the incident, Netherton was arrested and then turned over to the Tioga County Jail for centralized arraignment.
